Tonya Bowers
Assistant Teacher
Playful Parrots

Tonya took Child Education at the WCSCC and earned her GED in 2016. She worked in a pharmacy for 7 years until she got custody of her 2 nieces. She now has four children, her 2 nieces and 2 of her own.

There are many things she enjoys about working with children. One thing she enjoys is when a child sees her and runs up to her, knowing that she is making a difference. Tonya’s favorite thing about working with children is that they teach her as much as she teaches them and every day is a new adventure.

Outside of work she doesn’t have many hobbies but enjoys spending time with her kids and family. They enjoy taking walks and just being together as every day is a new memory.

Denise Phillips
Assistant Teacher
Charming Chickadees

Denise graduated from Austin High and spent some time at Malcolm X College in Chicago and Stillman College in Atlanta. She is from the windy city Chicago Illinois and worked in the medical field for about twenty years ago. She was helping anyone and everyone she could and in her spare time was watching children for moms who had to work weekends.

Denise loves seeing the smiles on children’s faces when they arrive in the morning and how happy they are when learning new things. She also loves learning from them and watching them grow from little babies into big kids getting ready for kindergarten. Denise believes in sharing love and listening to the children when they need to talk or play.

When Denise isn’t at Learn N Play she works with her church, watches children, helps feed the community, reads and she enjoys dancing and helping whoever she can.
