History

In 1973 a small group of community members recognized the need for affordable childcare for working parents.  The founders wanted the children to have opportunities for learning and development with a year round program that would help to support their parents' work schedules.

In the very beginning the center was called Wooster Area Day Care and for a brief period of time had a small program at the Baptist Church.  In 1975 the community came together to construct a community center with a daycare facility within the building.  The location of the center has benifits such as the local merchant support of their annual trick or treat through downtown Wooster, walking trips to Schellin Park, the Wayne County Public Library and the Wayne Center for the Arts.  The center was dedicated in 1977.

Although it is housed within the community center, the Early Care and Education center is a successful stand alone non-profit Agency. Learn 'N Play has been a Partner Agency with United Way of Wayne & Holmes Counties for many years.  With the support of the community through United Way and private donations, Learn 'N Play is able to provide a sliding scale tuition rate.

Over the years the Agency has grown by welcoming new Board and Staff Members and building a playground. All along while keeping its mission strong to serve the community with developmentally appropriate childcare that is affordable to everyone. To this day, Learn 'N Play continues to increase educational opportunities for our children and their families.
